Stavros Papastavrou: American investors interested in GSI "want numbers and data"

Greece's Minister of Energy Stavros Papastavrou has made reference to American investor interest in participating in the electrical cable project (GSI) that will interconnect Greece - Cyprus - Israel.

Speaking on Open TV in Greece, Papastavrou noted that the US investors are in an investigation phase, requesting specific financial data, and added that the project has broader geopolitical significance, strengthening Washington's strategy for greater presence and connectivity in the Eastern Mediterranean.

"Interest has been expressed by American companies in the exploration phase, Americans who want to invest want the numbers, the data. But this also has a broader geopolitical dimension, it connects the Eastern Mediterranean that the American leadership wants to strengthen. No one can know the final result.

"Our country has a very important geographical position, we are between three continents and American laws say that no one can touch where American natural gas passes, where American giants invest," he stressed.

Referring to Turkey's stance, the Greek Minister stressed that it cannot stay on the fence. "The one who thought they could have a foot in both camps has been told by Trump that they had to choose. So sometimes the stable and clear option is the given one."

"The best way to shield our country is the agreements we signed at Zappeion. There were four American Ministers and American giants here," Papastavrou concluded.
