Industrial production records annual increase in August and in first eight months of the year

The Industrial Production Index in August this year reached 91.1 units (base 2021=100), recording an increase of 0.8% compared to August 2024.

According to CySTAT, for the period January – August 2025, the index recorded an increase of 2.8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The manufacturing sector registered an increase of 1.7% compared to August 2024. An increase was also observed in water supply and materials recovery (+3.3%). Negative changes were observed in mining and quarrying (-2.8%) and the electricity supply sector (-2.6%).

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to August 2024 were observed in the manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+11.8%), the manufacturing of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture (+8.6%) and the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (+4.8%). The most important negative changes were observed in the manufacturing of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products (-11.1%) and paper and paper products and printing (-10.5%).

Comparing the rates of change for the period January – August 2025 against the corresponding period of the previous year, the most significant positive changes were observed in the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products (+8.4%), water collection, treatment and supply (+7.8%), the manufacturing of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture (+7.7%), the manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+6.9%), the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products (+6.4%) and the manufacturing of furniture, other manufacturing and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+6.3%).

The activities where the most significant negative changes in production were registered compared to the period January – August 2024 were those relating to the manufacturing of paper and paper products and printing (-13.3%), the manufacturing of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products (-5.8%) and electricity supply (-2.7%).
