Marios Antoniadis, member of ‘Apollon Runners’ team, will participate in the 42nd Athens Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, 9 November, 2025, intending to support The Little Heroes Foundation for children battling cancer.
As noted in a Foundation announcement, “Mr. Antoniadis’ initiative is profoundly touching, being tangible evidence of how sports can be a bridge of solidarity and hope. The distance of Marathon race is particularly significant for us because it is dedicated to the children treated at the Makarios Hospital Paediatric Oncology Department or receiving treatment abroad and also their families. “
The Foundation also shared a letter from Antoniadis, reflecting his intentions: “On Sunday, 9 November 2025, the 42nd Athens Marathon is taking place. The 42.195-kilometre classic race comes close to my 53rd birthday and I have decided for the second time in my life to stand once again at the starting line of this historic race. This time, I will run for the bravest children I know. I will run in the colours of my team, ‘Apollon Runners’, for the children who have their Marathon struggle against cancer everyday. For Little Heroes!”
“Athens Marathon means a lot to me,” Antoniadis continued, “In 2018 I participated in the first of five Marathon races. An overwhelming experience with self-defining nature. Seven years later, I am going back to where it all began. But this time, I will have on my mind and in my heart all these Little Heroes in life. I will be carrying hope, strength, and the smile of these children in every difficulty, uphill, doubt and pain. For me, it will be a few hours effort. For these children, it is weeks and months of effort. Whole years of efforts.”
He went on to say, “The 'Little Heroes' Foundation has since 2017 been providing these children and their families with financial and psychological support. To come up winners in this great struggle carried out every day. Join us! Those real Little Heroes may bear in mind that they are not alone when running their Marathon race. Because their Marathon race is the most important of all.”
