The strategic importance of Ayia Napa Marina for the development of the free Famagusta district and the promotion of maritime tourism in the Eastern Mediterranean was highlighted by Chief Marina Officer Costas Fitiris as he addressed the International Sea Tourism Festival 2025 (ISTF).
Fitiris welcomed attendees, noting that the presence of the President of the Republic was a particular honour and marked the beginning of an event that aspires to become “a reference point for maritime innovation and sustainable blue growth”.
Referring to the challenges faced by the free Famagusta district, he pointed out that seasonality and one-dimensional economic activity had led many young people to seek opportunities elsewhere. “Our society needs new horizons for action and employment,” he stressed, adding that the district’s two marinas — Ayia Napa and Paralimni — have now evolved into meeting points of culture, technology, and entrepreneurship.
“The ISTF Festival embodies this spirit of creativity and collaboration,” he said, explaining that the event aims to create a dynamic network of cooperation in the fields of maritime tourism, blue research, and innovation.
Fitiris also underlined Ayia Napa Marina’s role as a safe harbour in times of crisis, recalling its contribution to humanitarian aid operations and the repatriation of foreign nationals during recent crises in the Middle East.
Concluding his remarks, he expressed gratitude to the Marina’s staff, the Boats Advisor team, and the exhibitors from Cyprus and abroad, “whose participation gives life and international character to the event”.
