Trade deficit increases by €1b in first eight months of 2025

The trade deficit of Cyprus was €5,155.4m in January–August 2025 compared to €4,154.8m in the corresponding period of 2024.

According to CySTAT, total imports of goods in August 2025 were €1,098.2m as compared to €981.8m in August 2024, recording an increase of 11.9%.

Imports from other EU Member States were €590.3m and from third countries €507.9m, compared to €585.6m and €396.2m respectively in August 2024.

Imports in August 2025 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with total value of €34.4m as compared to €2.4m in August 2024.

Total exports of goods in August 2025 were €531.3m as compared to €290.8m in August 2024, recording an increase of 82.7%.

Exports to other EU Member States were €74,4m and to third countries €456.9m, compared to €73.7m and €217.1m respectively in August 2024.

Exports in August 2025 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with total value of €41.4m as compared to €11m in August 2024.

Total imports of goods in January–August 2025 amounted to €8,884.6m as compared to €7,781.7m in January–August 2024, recording an increase of 14.2%.

Total exports of goods in January-August 2025 were €3,729.2m compared to €3,626.9m in January-August 2024, registering an increase of 2.8%.

The trade deficit was €5,155.4m in January–August 2025 compared to €4,154.8m in the corresponding period of 2024.

Meanwhile, total imports of goods amounted to €1,289.2m in July 2025 as compared to €1,079.4m in July 2024, recording an increase of 19.4%.

Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €384.1m in July 2025 as compared to €217.4m in July 2024, recording an increase of 76.7%.

Domestic exports of industrial products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €373.8m in July 2025 compared to €208,6m in July 2024.

Domestic exports of agricultural products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €8.6m in July 2025 compared to €7.7m in July 2024.

Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €180.9m in July 2025 as compared to €111.8m in July 2024, recording an increase of 61.8%.
