Deposits show net increase of €44.3m in August, loans drop €60.8m

Deposits showed a net increase of €44.3 million in August, according to the MFIs deposits and loans statistics released on by the Central Bank of Cyprus, which are included in the September 2025 edition of Monetary and Financial Statistics.

In the same month, loans recorded a net decrease of €60.8 million.

According to CBC, total deposits in August 2025 recorded a net increase of €44.3 million, compared with a net decrease of €154.5 million in July 2025. The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 6%, compared with 6.5% in July 2025.

The outstanding amount of total deposits reached €56.5 billion in August 2025.

Deposits of Cyprus residents exhibited an increase of €133.6 million. Deposits of households and non-financial corporations increased by €46.5 million and €152.7 million, respectively. Deposits of the remaining domestic sectors exhibited a total decrease of €65.7 million.

Net decrease in loans

Total loans in August 2025 recorded a net decrease of €60.8 million, compared with a net increase of €74.9 million in July 2025. The annual growth rate of total loans stood at 7.2%, remaining unchanged compared with July 2025.

The outstanding amount of total loans reached €26.4 billion in August 2025.

According to CBC, loans to Cyprus residents exhibited a decrease of €69.9 million. Loans to households and non-financial corporations decreased by €15.5 million and €48.6 million respectively. Loans to the remaining domestic sectors exhibited a total decrease of €5.8 million.
