Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Andreas N. Papageorgiou, from Petra Soleas and a former resident of Nicosia, has died.
He was 92 when he died on 2 September.
Papageorgiou's funeral will be held on Thursday, 4 September, at 10am, from the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Nicosia, while the family will receive condolences at the church from 9.30am.
The deceased is survived by his wife, his three children with their families, his brother, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
The family, in lieu of wreaths, is calling for contributions to the Hospice of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus and the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Association.
Andreas Papageorgiou was born in Petra in 1932. He studied law at Gray's Inn in London (1956-1959) and practiced law in Nicosia and Lefkas.
From 1963, he worked as an in-house legal advisor to the Bank of Cyprus, organizing its legal services and was promoted to senior manager.
On 9 March, 1978, he was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry in the government of Spyros Kyprianou, a position in which he served until 9 September, 1980.
He also served as General Manager of the Housing Finance Organisation.
