European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, Piotr Serafin, will pay an official visit to Cyprus from 3 to 5 September.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Finance, the visit is part of a series of visits to EU member states, within the framework of the Commissioner's Tour d’Europe. The aim of these visits is to highlight the added value of the EU budget for member states, as well as the positive impact of EU-funded projects both in the member states and across Europe as a whole, it is added.
“The visit of the European Commissioner takes place at a particularly critical time, marking the beginning of negotiations for the next Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028-2034, following the presentation of the European Commission’s proposal last July”, the Ministry of Finance notes.
The negotiations for the MFF is described as a top priority for Cyprus, in the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026.
During his visit, the Commissioner will hold meetings with the President of the Republic, the Minister of Finance, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs and other institutional officials. In addition, the Commissioner will visit projects co-funded by the European Union.
