Minds in Cyprus: Companies offering lucrative salaries to tempt Cypriot talent back from abroad

The country's Minds in Cyprus initiative to repatriate Cypriot talent is in full swing, following the special event – co-organised by the government, Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), and Invest Cyprus – that was held last May in London.

At the London event, President Nikos Christodoulides presented the incentives offered under the initiative, while also outlining the government’s vision and strategic priorities through this specific action.

The updated online platform, mindsincyprus.com, went live this week, aiming to build a bridge between companies seeking out talent and Cypriots living and working abroad.

The platform provides, among other, access to the Ministry of Labour’s new Opportunities for Talent platform, where those interested can view available jobs in Cyprus, register, and receive tailored updates about opportunities matching their profile (click here to check the vacancies announced so far).

The first edition of the Information Hub has also become available, providing useful information for those considering repatriation.

Extra incentives in the field of education

Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers has approved a series of measures related to education to support those repatriating under the Minds in Cyprus plan.

These measures include learning the Greek language, as well as an annual grant for those coming to Cyprus so that their children may attend private schools.

The jobs offered and salaries

Browsing the platform, one can find the currently available job positions, with salaries ranging from €2,000–€2,700 per month to as high as €110,000–€115,000 per year.

Among other:

  • The Island Private School is offering a Primary Librarian (IB PYP) position with a salary of €2,000–€2,700.

CCCI SG Philokypros Roussounides: There is interest from businesses

Speaking to InBusinessNews, CCCI’s Secretary General Philokypros Roussounides said when asked: “There is indeed a relevant interest from businesses in the government’s plan.”

He added: “We have also duly informed our members, since the event held in the United Kingdom was co-organised exclusively by the Presidency of the Republic, Invest Cyprus, and the CCCI. There is, I repeat, interest, both from businesses and from Cypriots living abroad who wish to repatriate.”

Though according to Roussounides, this is no easy task given that other factors also come into play beyond the availability of good jobs - such as personal circumstances or certain special conditions that may prevent immediate relocation.

“We certainly welcome the establishment of such an initiative, which we hope will continue in the coming years, so that a culture is created that encourages highly skilled Cypriot professionals who excel abroad—or others who have gained experience abroad and wish to transfer it to our country—to return with specific incentives, with the aim of upgrading Cyprus’ academic and professional foundations,” he said before adding: “The first step has been taken, the initial information has been provided, and both the state and we as an institution have demonstrated the will, conviction, and determination to do whatever is possible within our capabilities, so that—particularly now, when there is a major shortage of human capital—we can bring back talented Cypriots who can enrich the professional sector in our country, which will of course have a direct impact on the Cypriot economy.”
