Dmitry Byshonkov: "We’ve seen first-hand how much the tech and gaming ecosystem in Cyprus has evolved in recent years"

"Cyprus has proven to be not just a strategic location but a strong foundation for scaling our operations across Europe and beyond," Dmitry Byshonkov, Business Development Director at MY.GAMES notes.

Speaking to GOLD magazine on the occasion of MY.GAMES receiving an Invest Cyprus International Investment Award, Byshonkov reflected on the company’s growth since it chose Cyprus as one of its key global hubs, and, among other things, its growing role in the island’s tech and gaming ecosystem and its contribution to the broader community.

How has Cyprus contributed to your growth in Europe since 2017 and what are the key advantages of operating from this location?

Cyprus has played a key role in our growth strategy, offering both geographical and operational advantages. Its position at the crossroads of Europe and the MENA region allows us to effectively manage and expand our presence in both markets. The business environment here is particularly supportive of the tech and gaming sectors. The tech-friendly regulatory framework – including competitive IP-Box incentives and favourable income tax benefits – enables us to reinvest more into research, development and new intellectual property. In addition, the simplified relocation process and work permit options for spouses have helped us attract talent from different countries, making it easier to build diverse, high-performing teams. Since opening our Limassol office, our local team has grown steadily and in 2024 we expanded into a new, larger space to support our continued development. Cyprus has proven to be not just a strategic location but a strong foundation for scaling our operations across Europe and beyond.

In 2024, MY.GAMES launched Knights Peak, a premium publishing label for PC and console titles. What does this development signify in terms of your strategic evolution and how do you maintain high standards across an increasingly diverse portfolio?

The launch of Knights Peak Interactive marked an important step in MY.GAMES’ strategy, as we expanded beyond our already established free-to-play mobile roots into the premium PC and console market. This new label, led by experienced industry veterans, reflects our commitment to supporting both emerging and established studios with high-quality titles such as Tempest Rising, Starship Troopers: Extermination, Hela, Nikoderiko and Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree, with more exciting projects in the Knights Peak’s portfolio. One of MY.GAMES’ key strengths lies in our diversified portfolio – across platforms, genres and business models – which gives us the ability to anticipate industry trends and challenges.

Limassol is rapidly becoming a vibrant hub for gaming and tech, attracting both local talent and international companies. What has your experience of collaborating with others in the ecosystem been like and how do you see MY.GAMES helping strengthening Cyprus’ position on the global gaming map?

We’ve seen first-hand how much the tech and gaming ecosystem in Cyprus has evolved in recent years. There’s a strong and growing community of developers, supported by organisations like TechIsland, that play a vital role in fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing and innovation. Being part of this community allows us to stay closely connected to local talent, emerging studios and the broader tech landscape. At MY.GAMES, we actively support this development in a number of ways – whether by contributing to educational programmes, supporting industry events or working with universities on upskilling the next generation of game creators. We also collaborate with – and invest in – local studios, helping them bring their games to international markets while continuing to grow their presence here in Cyprus.

Looking to the future, what are your plans for expanding MY.GAMES’ services and operations in Cyprus and the broader Mediterranean region? Are there specific projects or strategic objectives you are working on to further enhance your market presence and offerings?

Cyprus remains a key part of our long-term strategy. We’re also focused on deepening our ties with the ecosystem, either through collaborations with universities, support for educational programmes or ongoing partnerships with local studios. As the industry continues to evolve, we see opportunities to bring even more expertise, publishing support, and international visibility to the region.

Congratulations on receiving an Invest Cyprus International Investment Award. What does this recognition mean to you and your team at MY.GAMES?

Winning this award is a great honour for all of us at MY.GAMES. First, it’s a vote of confidence in the vision we set out back in 2017 when we chose Limassol as one of our key global hubs. More importantly, it highlights our long-term commitment to Cyprus – not just as an operational base but as a community that we are proud to invest in and grow with. Over the years, we’ve supported the local ecosystem through initiatives like investing in Cypriot game studios and contributing to educational and charitable projects. This recognition reinforces Cyprus’ position as an exciting and credible location for building and scaling a global tech business and it inspires us to keep contributing to the island’s continued growth and success in the gaming sector.
