Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence signs grant agreement for MANIFESTO AI Project

The Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence officially signed the Grant Agreement for the MANIFESTO project, an ambitious research initiative titled “Machine Learning for Intelligent Insect Monitoring.”

According to a press release by the Centre, funded under the competitive EXCELLENCE/0524 call of the RESTART 2016–2020 Programme by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), the project marks a major leap in AI-driven innovation for sustainable agriculture.

The signing of the contracts was conducted at the RIF premises in Nicosia, in the presence of Dr Michalis Mavrovouniotis, Deputy Coordinator of the Big Earth Data Analytics Department of ERATOSTHENES CoE, Prof. Diofantos Hadjimitsis, Managing Director of ERATOSTHENES CoE and Stavros Kambanellas, Scientific and Innovation Officer from RIF. ion Officer from the Research and Innovation Foundation.

It says that the MANIFESTO project is designed to create an advanced AI-based system capable of early pest detection through intelligent monitoring, particularly targeting invasive threats like the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP) that transmits one of the deadliest and most harmful citrus diseases, Huanglongbing (also known as the yellow dragon disease).

The objective is to empower precision agriculture with real-time, data-driven decision-making tools that enhance crop protection while promoting sustainable farming practices.

By integrating Earth Observation, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies, MANIFESTO is set to redefine intelligent pest control helping build a smarter, greener, and more, it concludes.
