Fire Service Spokesman: Flare-ups contained in Omodos, Pano Kyvides, Alassa, and Zanakia
07:39 - 25 July 2025

Fire Service Spokesman Andreas Kettis said that minor flare-ups were tackled overnight near the communities of Pano Kyvides, Alassa, Zanakia, and Omodos, in an X post.
The contribution of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from the National Guard was crucial, as they patrolled and mapped the wildfire throughout the night, he said.
Early in the morning, five aircraft took off and began perimeter water drops to better contain the fire or target specific hotspots, as determined by on-the-ground evaluations.
During the night, the two Israeli C-130 aircraft carried out drops of fire retardant, helping to stabilize the containment lines.
Winds are expected to gradually intensify again today, but firefighting forces remain fully deployed and are adjusting positions as needed.
The wildfires that broke out in the mountainous areas of Limassol on 23 July have left behind a trail of ashes and devastation, resulting in the loss of two lives, several injuries, and dozens of citizens seeing their homes and properties consumed by flames.
Strong firefighting forces remained on high alert, working to contain minor flare-ups, while with the first light of day, aerial firefighting units began water drops. Damage assessments in the affected areas are expected to continue throughout the day.
According to initial estimates, the wildfires have burned 124 square kilometers and have affected over 15 communities in the Limassol mountain region.
At first glance, it is believed that more than 100 homes and buildings have sustained serious damage or have been completely destroyed.
