CCCI and OEB react to Limassol wildfires and pledge support to affected businesses

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) have voiced their devastation at the wildfires that have savaged the Limassol district and claimed two lives, pledging to stand by the businesses that have been affected.

CCCI posted: "With deep sorrow, we are witnessing the devastating wildfires that have struck the Limassol District, causing extensive damage to the natural environment, properties, and the lives of citizens.

We express our unwavering support and solidarity with all those affected by this difficult situation – to our fellow citizens who are being tested, to the families who have lost their homes and property, and to the frontline responders, firefighters, and volunteers who are selflessly fulfilling their duty.

In this challenging moment, we must all demonstrate unity, responsibility, and tangible support.

Our thoughts are with all those who are suffering. We stand together for the day after."

In a later post, CCCI expressed its devastation at the two blaze's two fatalities. "The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the devastating wildfire, as well as its support for the affected communities, residents, and business owners impacted by the consequences of the disaster.

At the same time, the Chamber extends its sincere thanks to the firefighting forces and volunteers who are selflessly working to extinguish and contain the fire fronts, protecting lives and property.

The Limassol Chamber will remain in constant communication with its members and the authorities to monitor emerging needs and will contribute in every possible way to the ongoing support and recovery efforts."

The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) issued a statement of deep sorrow and resolve following the deadly wildfires that have ravaged the mountainous regions of Limassol and other parts of Cyprus.

OEB expressed profound grief over the extensive damage to private property, wildlife, and the natural environment. The statement also highlighted the particular pain caused by the tragic loss of two human lives, underscoring the heavy toll the fires have taken on the nation. “The Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB) expresses its deep sorrow over the immense destruction caused by the wildfires to property, wildlife, and the natural environment of mountainous Limassol and beyond,” the statement reads. “There is particular grief over the loss of two human lives.”

It added: “OEB expresses its gratitude to the men and women of the firefighting teams from all bodies and services, as well as to the volunteers participating in the effort to control the fires.”

The Federation also emphasised the importance of the post-fire phase, noting that the end of the blaze marks the beginning of a broader mission — supporting affected citizens, restoring infrastructure, and revitalising Cyprus’ natural landscape. “Once the fires are extinguished, the effort begins to support the fire-stricken citizens, restore the damages, and regenerate the affected nature.”

OEB’s statement echoes a growing wave of support and mobilisation across Cyprus’ business and civic sectors, reinforcing the call for solidarity, resilience, and sustainable recovery in the wake of this environmental and human tragedy.
