Nominations for the 2025 Cyprus Research Awards are now open

Nominations for the 2025 Cyprus Research Awards are now open. For the 18th consecutive year, the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) honours and highlights the work of young and distinguished scientists in the country, promoting excellence and encouraging the expansion of research and innovative activity in Cyprus.

Specifically, this year's awards will be given for “Distinguished Researcher,” “Young Researcher,” and “Commercial Exploitation of Research Results.”

Candidate researchers must be nominated by another person and will be evaluated based in information they are required to submit to RIF relating to their research work, their achievements, and impact.

The deadline for nominations is September 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., and the relevant invitations with information on the terms and conditions of participation are available on the IRIS portal. It should be noted that there is no limit to the number of candidates that an individual or organization can nominate.

“Cyprus Research Award – Distinguished Researcher 2025”

Awarded to outstanding scientists with more than 7 years of research experience since obtaining their doctoral degree, who have demonstrated recent, significant, and internationally recognized achievements in the field of research. For the year 2025, the Award will be presented in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities. The winners in each category will receive a grant of €60,000 to continue their research.

“Cyprus Research Award – Young Researcher 2025”

Awarded to young scientists with less than 7 years of experience since obtaining their doctoral degree, who have demonstrated high-quality research activity in one of the following subject areas: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities. The winners in each category will receive a grant of €60,000 to employ a doctoral student or postdoctoral researcher.

“Cyprus Award for Commercial Exploitation of Research Results 2025”

Awarded to a scientist or team of scientists who have demonstrated successful commercial exploitation of their research results in the field of Life Sciences or Physical Sciences and Engineering or Social Sciences & Humanities. The winner will receive a grant of €60,000 to carry out research and development activities (TRL 4-8) aimed at improving the commercial readiness of the specific research.
