The largest part of the car market in Cyprus is now occupied by hybrid car registrations, which marginally precede petrol and diesel-powered cars.
The buyers' shift to green cars is more than evident, as both hybrid and electric vehicles are gradually gaining ground, shrinking the momentum of petrol and diesel models.
More specifically, according to CySTAT data, the share of petrol-powered saloon cars fell in the period January-April 2025 to 42.9% from 48.9% in the corresponding period of 2024, while the share of diesel-powered cars fell to 9% from 10% in the corresponding period last year.
On the contrary, the share of hybrids increased in the first quarter of 2025 to 43.3% from 37.4%, while the share of electric vehicles stood at 4.8% compared to 3.6% in the first quarter of 2024.
The entry into the Cypriot market of the Chinese BYD, which is one of the leading companies in electric mobility, creates new conditions as the company's undisputed goal is to lead the electric vehicle market in Cyprus, to strengthen Cyprus' transition to electric mobility and to become a pole of attraction for buyers, offering choices in both electric and hybrid models.
