A breakdown of Cyprus' key tourism markets, as 2025 arrivals continue to smash records

Cyprus’ tourism continues its strong performance in 2025, breaking one record after another. These achievements confirm not only the sector’s resilience in the face of challenges but also its tremendous growth potential.

According to the latest data from the Statistical Service (Cystat), both in April 2025 and the first four months of the year, tourism once again reached new record highs.

April 2025 performance

In April alone, arrivals reached 418,730, compared to 333,563 in April 2024—an impressive increase of 25.5%.
This significant rise appears to be partly due to the rare overlap of Orthodox, Catholic, and Jewish Passover holidays, which boosted tourist arrivals during this period.

January–April 2025 overview

In the first four months of the year, total tourist arrivals amounted to 865,326, compared to 748,814 during the same period in 2024, representing a 15.6% increase.

Key tourism markets

Analysis from Cystat confirms that the United Kingdom remains Cyprus’ primary tourism market, followed by Israel and Poland in the top three.

Meanwhile, Germany is gradually becoming a significant player, while Greece—despite a drop in arrivals—remains in the top five:

  • UK arrivals (Jan–Apr): 265,244 (up 15.6% from 229,411 in 2024)
  • Israel arrivals: 134,725 (up 80.3% from 74,731)
  • Poland arrivals: 84,792 (up 7.5% from 78,873)
  • Germany arrivals: 57,904 (up 10.2% from 52,553)
  • Greece arrivals: 51,673 (down 5.4% from 54,636)

Who completes the Top 10

Following the top five—though at a considerable distance—are Sweden, Romania, Netherlands, France, and Austria, completing the top ten list of source markets.

  • Sweden: 19,720 (up 36.7% from 14,427)
  • Romania: 16,123 (up 26% from 12,791)
  • Netherlands: 15,388 (up 63.1% from 9,433)
  • France: 14,617 (down 32% from 21,482)
  • Austria: 12,665 (up 20.7% from 10,492)

Russia and the United States

The once-dominant Russian market has slipped to 11th place, despite recording a 20% increase in arrivals from 10,492 to 12,665 in the same reference period.

As for the United States, a key target market for both the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and Hermes Airports, arrivals reached 10,807, which was up 13.1% from 9,559.
