Cyprus, Bahrain Ministers discuss regional stability, Gaza and bilateral ties

Cyprus’ Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani held talks in Manama focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional challenges, including the Gaza ceasefire, maritime security, the future of Syria, and interfaith dialogue.

Economic cooperation was also high on the agenda during Kombos’ first visit to Bahrain, following the opening of Cyprus’ resident Embassy in the Kingdom.

"Honoured to be received in Manama for my first visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain following the establishment of the resident Embassy of Cyprus in Bahrain," Kombos wrote in a post on platform “X”, Kombos.

He also thanked Al Zayani and the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the warm welcome and hospitality.

According to the Cypriot Foreign Minister, talks between the two officials covered a wide range of topics, including Cyprus–Bahrain bilateral relations, trade and investment, connectivity through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), sectoral cooperation in maritime affairs, tourism, foreign direct investment, education, fintech, and pharmaceuticals.

He also wrote that regional issues were also high on the agenda, with discussions on maritime security, regional stability, the Gaza ceasefire and humanitarian aid efforts, the need for an inclusive and representative future for Syria, and interfaith dialogue, particularly in view of Cyprus' upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026. The Cyprus issue was also addressed.

Kombos concluded his message by extending an invitation to Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, writing, "Looking forward to welcoming you in Cyprus soon.
