GOLD New Issue: Success Beyond Borders

In the new issue of GOLD (available here), on newsstands from Sunday, 16 March, we feature 11 Cypriots who thrived beyond the borders of their homeland.

The climb to the top is rarely a group endeavour. Whether scaling the corporate ladder or building a leading construction company, great aspirations have a habit of outmuscling everything else – family time, vacations and, in some cases, mental health. Entrepreneurship, in particular, has become a breeding ground for anxiety and burnout, with recent surveys indicating that nearly two-thirds of company founders battle with mental health issues. The hustle mindset that permeates the scene, where anything from sleep to relationships are sacrificed at the altar of success, can be particularly damaging. But stress is a double-edged sword: for many – entrepreneurs and businesspeople alike – it can lead to a sense of urgency, driving productivity up. We turned to the Cypriot diaspora for this month’s cover story because, first and foremost, we wanted to highlight the fact that even a small country like ours can produce global industry leaders, and more importantly, we wanted to examine an elusive phenomenon: the brain drain. In this cover story, we pick the brains of 11 Cypriots who left, thrived and defined success beyond the borders of their homeland.
