Energy Minister in Warsaw for EU meeting and Athens for Energy Summit

Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, George Papanastasiou, will be in Warsaw and Athens over the coming days for the EU joint informal Competitiveness and Trade Summit and the 14th Athens Energy Summit.

Papanastasiou departed for Warsaw on 3 February to participate in the two-day joint Informal Meeting of Ministers of Competitiveness (Industry and Internal Market) and Trade Ministers, organised for the first time by the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, a Ministry press release said.

During the Summit, the Ministers are expected to exchange views on the reasons for the decline in the EU's competitiveness, while also discussing the latest developments in the Union's relations with the USA.

The Polish Presidency's ambition, as the press release said, is to achieve synergies between industrial and trade policy in order to strengthen Europe's competitiveness.

On Wednesday, 5 February, Papanastasiou will travel to Athens to participate in a ministerial roundtable discussion as part of the 14th Athens Energy Summit, focusing on geopolitical developments and the global energy market.

The Minister returns to Cyprus on the evening of 5 February.
