Tracing the footsteps of women in Cyprus: Movements, Struggles & Feminisms

The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in collaboration with the bahçes histories* of Cyprus, has organised a walk about feminism movements, activism and the struggles of women in Cyprus, on Saturday, 8 March 2025 in the walled town of Nicosia.

Inspired by Act I: “The people of Cyprus” of the Cyprus Insula exhibition- History, Memory, Reality and οn the occasion of the International Women’s Day, the walk will explore the interwoven histories of women’s movements, struggles, and feminism/s in Cyprus. Emphasizing the dynamic interplay between agency and structures and situates women’s histories within broader narratives of time, place, and identity, revealing their role in shaping Cyprus’ past and present.

From early feminism/s to intercommunal solidarity and contemporary feminist activism, this walk will discuss how the women of Cyprus have navigated their personal and collective circumstances within the social, political and economic contexts of their times.
