E-Kalathi platform set to launch for all users on 4 March

The e-Kalathi platform, an application which will include the prices of a wide range of products, is expected to go live for all users on 4 March, Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry George Papanastasiou has said.

He was speaking on 30 January following a meeting with the leadership of the SEK trade union.

"At the moment, the platform is operating in a virtual environment, meaning that buyers and supermarkets are already entering product prices. When it officially launches, it will provide price listings for approximately 480 widely consumed products," Papanastasiou said.

The Minister expressed hope that this digital tool would empower consumers to shop smarter by offering transparent price comparisons.

He also pointed out the importance of a pending bill in the House of Representatives that would grant the Minister the authority to set price ceilings on certain essential goods in markets lacking competition.

"We hope that, following discussions with Parliament, the bill will be passed into law, allowing us to implement it through ministerial decree. We intend to begin with water pricing," Papanastasiou added.

He confirmed that current information indicates it is scheduled for a vote in the House plenary on 6 February.
