Consumers and businesses satisfied with festive spending

Consumers and businesses expressed their satisfaction with shopping during the festive period.

The President of the Cyprus Consumers Association, Marios Droushiotis, told CNA that "we are pleased with the the market. To be honest, I expected less business than what we have seen and that is pleasing," he said.

He noted that consumers visiting businesses were buying goods, according to the association's observations, as they exited the shops with purchases, both in the malls and street shops.

When asked about complaints submitted to the Association, he said that the only complaints submitted were related to three instances of online gift purchases, which did not arrive on time. When it comes to gifts, consumers should be aware that delivery times are twice as long during the Christmas period due to the workload, he said.

Adamos Hadjiadamou, Executive Secretary of the Cyprus Supermarkets Association, also expressed his satisfaction about business during the festive season. "We are completely satisfied" he said, noting that supermarkets made great efforts to make this happen, "with offers, with a selection of products, making the effort to constantly compare prices and absorb any increases where and when we can."

Although the relevant figures have not yet been released, he estimated that the turnover in supermarkets was at least at last year's levels.
