Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, is in Budapest to attend the Informal Council of EU Agriculture Ministers, held until 10 September.
According to a statement, during the meeting, ministers will discuss the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) after 2027, with the aim of shaping a competitive, crisis-resistant, sustainable and farmer-friendly agriculture in the EU.
As part of the work, ministers will examine the challenges facing European farmers, such as climate change, high input costs and how to address current and future market crises.
It is added that ministers will also discuss the simplification of the CAP and the development of a framework of incentives for farmers to contribute to environmental objectives while ensuring the sustainability of farmers. They will also examine existing crisis management tools to ensure effective support for farmers in an environment where they are increasingly common.
It is further noted that the results of the discussion of the European Agriculture Ministers will contribute to the formulation of policy orientations for the CAP after 2027.
