New Nicosia Jumbo store anticipated to open by 15 October

The reconstruction of the former headquarters of the Stefanides Group, opposite IKEA in Strovolos, is continuing at an intensive pace, to house the new store.

Polys Economides, the Financial Director of Jumbo stores in Cyprus has told InBusinessNews that the internal works are almost complete, while the external ones continue at an unabated pace.

Asked when the new store is expected to open, Economides estimated, that if everything goes well, it will open in the first fortnight of October.

He explained, "the work is going well and if everything goes well, the new store will open its doors to the public between 10 and 15 October."

Internal and external projects

Works, both internal and external, he added, continue intensively. "The internal works have almost been completed, while externally there are still some works to be done, so that we will be ready, I repeat, in the first fortnight of October for the new store to operate," he pointed out.

At the same time, Economides emphasised that "whether we will manage to complete all the work externally within the timetables, is something that will also depend on the weather.

If, for example, it rains for two days and no work can be done, you realise that our planning will also go back," he indicated.

"It is for this reason that at the moment we are not able to say the exact date that the store will be operational, but if everything goes well and there are no delays, the goal of being operational by mid-October is achievable," he further pointed out.

Also, when asked about the works currently being carried out on the roof of the building, the Financial Director of the Jumbo stores in Cyprus stated that, "work is being done to create parking spaces on the roof as well, which, in fact, will also be roofed with photovoltaic panels."

With the creation of the covered parking spaces on the roof of the building, he concluded, it is expected that the total number of parking spaces will reach 450.

Road works in the area

It is also worth mentioning that around the perimetre of the building where the new Jumbo store will be housed, road network improvement projects are also being carried out, with the creation of a new traffic lane to be used by those drivers who intend to visit the store.

The construction of pavements and other necessary infrastructure is also progressing, with the aim of avoiding traffic congestion in the area, given that the store is adjacent to other shopping areas such as the Mall of Cyprus, as well as Nicosia General Hospital.
