University of Cyprus to cooperate with Zhejiang University in China

University of Cyprus' (UCy) Faculty of Philosophy and the School of Fine Arts and Archaeology of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on 20 September, aimed at developing cooperation in education, research and innovation.

According to a UCy press release, the Memorandum was signed on behalf of the University of Cyprus by the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Associate Professor Petros Papapolyviou, and on behalf of Zhejiang University by the Dean of the School of Fine Arts and Archaeology, Professor Chen Hong.

As stated, according to the Memorandum, the two parties will cooperate in joint research activities, as well as in academic staff exchange for teaching and research purposes, and students’ exchanges in the context of their studies.

It is added that Zhejiang University, in the context of developing its cooperation with the University of Cyprus, has donated books titled "The Complete Works of Paintings of the Qing Dynasty" from the collection "The Complete Works of Ancient Chinese Paintings Series",  one of the most important documents of ancient Chinese paintings in books.

In his remarks at the signing ceremony, the University of Cyprus Vice Chancellor for International Relations, Finance and Administration, Professor Ioannis Giapintzakis, expressed confidence that the cooperation between the two universities faculties will contribute positively to the achievement of their goals and will spur the establishment of cooperation between other faculties of the two institutions.

On his part, Vice Chairman of Zhejiang University Council, Zhu Shiqiang, said that the two Universities ranked highly locally and nationally and aspired to further develop in the fields of education and research through this cooperation. He also highlighted the importance of internationalisation as a means of development and broadening the horizons of the two countries, while stressing that the Qing Dynasty book collection is one of the best and most admired collections in China's history.
