GSI: High level meeting to be held in New York

The Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) will be discussed at the highest possible diplomatic level, with President Nikos Christodoulides, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The trilateral meeting, scheduled to take place at 1am local time on 25 September, follows a separate meeting held last week between Christodoulides and Mitsotakis in Athens, where the former reaffirmed the Republic of Cyprus’ political commitment to participate in the project’s share capital.

The new meeting comes as a delegation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) state-owned company TAQA, led by its CEO, Dr Afif Saif Saif Al Yafei, reaffirmed its strong interest in participating in the GSI Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project.

This was done during a meeting with President Christodoulides in New York on 23 September.
