TAQA reaffirms strong interest in GSI participation to the President

A delegation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) state-owned company TAQA, led by its CEO, Dr. Afif Saif Saif Al Yafei, has reaffirmed its strong interest in participating in the GSI Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project.

This was done during a meeting with the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides in New York on 23 September, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to a written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the meeting follows the President's visit to the UAE on 9 September and his meeting there with the President of the country, where, among other things, it was agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including energy.

He also recalled that the UAE state-owned company TAQA maintains a keen interest in relation to the GSI Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project, noting that in December 2023, the company had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Cyprus and ADMIE, while there have been several meetings of the Committee set up specifically to explore the company's participation in the project.

According to Letymbiotis, during today's meeting, ways of expanding and accelerating the cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and the company were discussed.

He added that the TAQA representatives reaffirmed the company's strong interest in participating in the electricity interconnection project, adding that it was agreed that in the coming weeks there will be a meeting between delegations of the two sides to define a specific roadmap in relation to the next steps to be taken.

The meeting was attended by the Government Spokesperson, the Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Doros Venezis, the member of the President's Diplomatic Office Christoforos Hadjikyriakou and other officials, the statement concluded.
