Cyprus President and Greek PM set to discuss electricity interconnection

President Nikos Christodoulides is anticipated to hold a tete-a-tete meeting with the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in Athens, on the morning of 19 September.

The meeting will focus on the latest developments regarding the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project, in light of the approval by the Council of Ministers in Nicosia on 17 September of the Energy Ministry's proposal for the Cyprus-Crete electricity interconnection. In this context, the Republic of Cyprus will pay €25 million per year strictly, for five years, as a subsidy for the possible increase in consumers' bills, from 1/1/2025-31/12/2029, so that consumers will not be burdened by the increase.

According to a written statement by the Director of the President's Press Office, Viktoras Papadopoulos, President Christodoulides, accompanied by his wife Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, will also attend on Thursday a dinner in Athens of the Cyprus Shipowners' Association at the Association's Cyprus Tower premises, during which he will deliver an address.

President Christodoulides will return to Cyprus on the morning of 20 September.
