Houthi attacks and emissions at centre of ICS meeting in London

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) joined a Board of Directors meeting of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in London this week, where important global shipping matters were discussed – including the attacks by Yemen's Houthi group in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, and the target to reduce emissions.

CSC said in an announcement that Cyprus was represented at the meeting by the Chamber’s President Themis Papadopoulos and Director General Thomas Kazakos.

The meeting focused on the serious security issues raised by the Houthi attacks against ships and seafarers, as well as the upcoming round of negotiations of the International Maritime Organisation over the new package of regulations to reduce greenhouse emissions in the international shipping industry.

Furthermore, they discussed the ICS’ next actions to boost and develop global shipping.
