Elena Prochaskova on how leadership’s commitment sets the tone for responsible behavior throughout a company

“The most important prerequisite, in my opinion, is a strong leadership commitment to ethical values and a responsible approach,” Elena Prochaskova, Managing Director of JetBrains Cyprus suggests when asked about the company’s approach to ESG and CSR parameters and practices.

In an interview with InBusinessNews, Prochaskova also notes that, for JetBrains, “At the core of our responsible approach lies an ongoing commitment to the well-being of our employees.”

Today, ESG and CSR parameters are practices that are strongly connected to the sustainable development of a company and it’s part of an entire corporate identity. What does your responsible approach include?

At the core of our responsible approach lies an ongoing commitment to the well-being of our employees. We strive to create a supportive work environment that prioritizes their physical and mental health, offering wellness programs and flexible work arrangements. Additionally, we recognize the importance of philanthropy and social responsibility. For years, JetBrains has been investing in educational projects aimed at providing access to high-quality learning programs designed by JetBrains in collaboration with universities.

We’ve invested heavily in the education of the next generation of developers and researchers through our joint programs with Neapolis University Pafos and Constructor University in Germany. Beyond financial support in the form of subsidies and scholarships, we’re also sharing knowledge and human resources, with JetBrains staff members playing active roles as mentors, coaches, and even course lecturers.

In a business landscape full of challenges, which are the prerequisites for a successful, responsible practice and strategy?

The most important prerequisite, in my opinion, is a strong leadership commitment to ethical values and a responsible approach. This commitment sets the tone for responsible behavior throughout the company and embeds it deep within the company culture. And, of course, a clear articulation of organizational values and purpose is paramount as a guide for shaping a culture of responsibility.
