An interministerial meeting is scheduled to take place in the next few weeks to look into how the National Strategy for the Development of Mountain Communities of Cyprus is going and to decide the next steps, according to Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the Yiannakis Papadouris community building in Kalopanayiotis, the minister said: “I have scheduled a meeting with the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities in the next few weeks, as well as an interministerial meeting with the competent ministers and deputy ministers, to examine the course of implementation of the National Strategy and to decide our next steps for the swift implementation of the actions contained therein.”

Ioannou said there was a political will to implement measures and policies to develop the countryside, with Kalopanayiotis being a great example to follow.

"Having experienced times of glory, but also periods of decline, Kalopanayiotis, thanks to the vision and love of its wholesome residents, has achieved something that few communities have achieved in Cyprus, but also in the European Union", he said. "Not only has it stood the test of time and preserved its legacy, but it has transformed into a model community, proudly receiving accolades and becoming an example for all mountain communities in Cyprus and the European Union.”

Ioannou added, “Kalopanagiotis is now an example to be followed, an emerging community, giving momentum to the neighbouring communities, which are gradually being upgraded and becoming hubs for business, culture and social development, while protecting the natural wealth they have and preserving their historicity.”
