The most popular destinations as Cypriots take to the skies

Overseas travel from Cyprus showed a significant increase in the first quarter of 2024, which is mainly attributed to the fact that there were three consecutive three-day weekends in March.

According to data announced by CySTAT, the number of overseas trips taken by Cypriots (and permanent residents of Cyprus) reached 128,085 in March compared to 113,805 in the corresponding month last year, marking an increase of 12.5%.

In the January-March period, the number of trips in this category totaled 395,694 compared to 352,523 in the first quarter of 2023, registering an increase of 12.25%.

Further analysis of the data shows that Cypriots traveled to at least 35 countries in the first quarter of the year, with Greece remaining at the top of their choices.

Most popular destinations

In particular, first in the preferences of Cypriots for trips in the first quarter was Greece with 125,364 of our compatriots choosing it compared to 114,743 in the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 9.3%.

In second place was the United Kingdom, where trips reached 47,988 compared to 45,977 last year, marking a slight increase of 4.4%.

Italy was found in third place in the preferences of Cypriots, with 17,836 of our compatriots choosing it compared to 10,427 in the first quarter of 2023, recording an increase of 71%.

One place lower was Bulgaria with the number of trips in the January-March period reaching 13,910 compared to 14,191 in the first three months of 2023, showing a decrease of 1.98%.

Germany completes the top five, with trips reaching 13,685 compared to 12,335 last year, recording an increase of 10.9%.

Poland was found in sixth place in the preferences of Cypriots for travel in the first quarter of the year, with 13,433 choosing it compared to 10,515 last year, marking an increase of 27.8%.

In seventh place was the United Arab Emirates with the number of trips reaching 13,194 compared to 10,424 in the first quarter of 2023, showing an increase of 6.9%.

In eighth place was Austria with 12,614 Cypriots choosing it to travel to, compared to 10,176 last year, registering an increase of 24%.

In ninth place was Russia with the number of trips reaching 12,057 compared to 7,330 last year, showing an increase of 64.5%.

Romania completes the top ten choices of Cypriots for travel in the first quarter of the year with 11,378 taken, compared to 8,951 in the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 27.1%.
