President condemns Israeli airstrike that killed WCK members

The ‘Amalthia’ Gaza aid corridor from Cyprus will not be interrupted, President Nikos Christodoulides told a joint press conference with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, as he condemned the Israeli airstrikes that killed seven World Central Kitchen members on 1 April.

Commenting on the latest Gaza attack, which saw an IDF strike by Israel kill members of the NGO who were working on the ground, President Christodoulides said the tragic events mustn’t deter the humanitarian effort but instead it should be stepped up even further.

On her part, Metsola, who is on an official two-day visit to Cyprus, said the EU must continue to apply pressure for a ceasefire and called for an end to the brutalities.

She added that the effort must also continue to ensure the Israeli hostages held by Hamas are released.
