GOLD New Issue: The Ties That Bind

In this month’s issue of GOLD, out on Sunday, 18 February, we explore the perspectives of eleven heads of diplomatic missions to Cyprus.

We conducted these interviews against the backdrop of the global economy coming to terms with what has been a long-drawn-out series of shocks to the system, some of which are still far from over. These include Britain’s Brexit vote, a shift in US foreign policy during Donald Trump’s presidency, the COVID-19 pandemic, rising geopolitical tensions between some of the world’s biggest economic players, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, grappling with the emergence of advanced AI technology, and so many others. So, where does Cyprus stand amongst all of this? The island is in no way immune to external shocks, meaning that the further diversification of the economy and the appropriate management of relations with other countries are key to its welfare, particularly at a time as challenging as this.

GOLD hosts eleven ambassadors from the countries listed below, who address significant developments in their own countries as well as the status and progress of each country’s economic relations with our island and, on a lighter note, their personal experience of living in Cyprus.

  • UK
  • Israel
  • France
  • Australia
  • Finland
