A spotlight on seven significant €80m municipal and community development projects

Projects worth €310 million aimed at enhancing the quality of life of residents in municipalities and communities are provided for in the Medium-Term Financial Framework 2025-2027, of which €165 million projects concern urban areas, while €145 million worth of projects relate to rural areas.

As shown by the Ministry of Interior's budget for 2025, the significant development projects for the period within municipalities and communities with a total budget of €79.4 million concern the following seven.

  • Construction of Argyroupoleos Avenue (from the GSP interchange to Tseriou Avenue) and widening/improvement of Ippokratous Avenue and part of the southern extension of Tseriou Avenue, in Strovolos and Lakatamia: €18.5 million.
  • Road of primary importance from Makarios Sports Center to the new Nicosia-Limassol road via Alexandroupoli, Pythonas, Iraklis and Stavrou avenues: €14.5 million.
  • Improvement of Tseriou Avenue in Strovolos and Lakatamia (Phase A & B): €12.8 million .
  • Stormwater drainage plan for major urban areas, including the construction of certain flood control works in the greater Limassol area and the construction of flood control works in the Kamares area in Larnaca: €10.5 million.
  • Improvement of the Larnaca-Dhekelia coastal road - Phase C: €8.8 million.
  • Improvement of the road connecting Deryneia with Sotira: €8.8 million.
  • Improvement of the main road of Kato Defteras-Phase B: €5.5 million

Projects for rural revitalisation

  • The Medium-Term Financial Framework 2025-2027 also provides for projects worth approximately €194 million for rural revitalisation.
  • According to data from the Ministry of Interior's budget for 2025, the implementation of development projects in the countryside amounts to €45 million for 2025, while for the period 2025-2027 it is expected to reach €135 million.
  • The construction or improvement projects of community buildings amount to €5.8 million for 2025 and €16.6 million for the period 2025-2027.
  • Regarding the savings allocation program for additional projects in the countryside, approximately €5 million to €7 million are budgeted per year.
  • It is clarified that housing projects for the revitalisation of mountainous, remote, disadvantaged and rural areas are not included (€19 million for 2025 and €57 million for the period 2025-2027).
  • The sponsorship to the community councils of the free zones amounts to €18 million for 2025, while for the period 2025-2027 it is estimated at €54 million.
  • The budget for the Marathasa development action plan reaches €0.6 million for 2025 and €1.8 million for the period 2025-2027.
  • Regarding the plan to provide financial assistance to residents of communities with an altitude of over 600 meters, as well as residents of remote areas, it amounts to €8 million for 2025 and a total of €24 million for the period 2025-2027.
  • The revised development action plan for the Tillyria region is budgeted at €0.4 million for 2025 and €1.3 million for the period 2025-2027.
