Cypriot Antonia Panayides named one of Lloyd’s List’s Top 10 Maritime Lawyers for 2024

International law firm Reed Smith has announced that Antonia Panayides, a Cypriot London-based partner in the Transport Industry Group at Reed Smith, has been recognised as one of Lloyd’s List’s Top 10 Maritime Lawyers for 2024.

"This world class recognition underscores her exceptional contributions to the maritime legal sector and her pivotal role in tackling some of the industry’s most pressing challenges," a press release from the firm notes.

It goes on to say, "Antonia has distinguished herself through her expertise in managing intricate contractual disputes and addressing critical issues related to decarbonisation and sustainability. Her work reflects a profound understanding of the changing legal and regulatory landscape in the maritime sector and a dedication to fostering innovation and progress. Her recognition not only highlights her personal achievements but also brings pride and international attention to Cyprus. Antonia actively participates in seminars on shipping law and sanctions updates in Cyprus through her London firm. These events not only facilitate knowledge sharing but also foster significant networking opportunities, reinforcing Limassol's status as a vibrant maritime hub."

As pointed out in the press release, Panayides' notable achievements also include serving on the BIMCO drafting committees for the Time Charter Clause for FuelEU Maritime and WINDSEACON, a standard framework for the transport and installation of wind turbines. She has also been instrumental in developing a marketplace-style platform for pooling under FuelEU and is actively contributing to a pioneering carbon capture project.

In addition to her legal practice, Panayides is a strong advocate for the advancement of the maritime industry, the firm's announcement went on to say noting that she co-leads diversity initiatives within her firm and is an active member of WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association), where she works to create opportunities for women in the shipping industry, promoting diversity and inclusion.
