A Community Discussion by Lemesos 2030

Devoted to addressing the pressing concerns of the city’s artistic landscape, Lemesos 2030 is holding a Community Discussion on Monday, 4 November, 19:00, at Panos Solomonides Municipal Cultural Centre, inviting key voices from the artistic and cultural sector of Limassol to engage in a public dialogue.

Drawing on the subject “Defining Culture in Limassol: Narratives of Isolation and Inclusion”, the participants, under the guidance and coordination of Ellada Evangelou*, will engage in a conversation open to the public around the contemporary arts scene in Limassol, and the (de)colonisation of the city’s creative ecosystem.

Specifically, the interlocutors will delve into issues of isolation and inclusion of artists and groups, will analyse the mechanisms, perspectives and challenges that emerge from these dynamics, and consequently explore how communities are being formulated under/within such conditions. The (de)colonisation of the city’s creative ecosystem will also take central role, as it is intrinsically related to infrastructure and funding, topics that were extensively discussed during the “10 10 100” public consultation exercise organised by Lemesos 2030 back in September.

This time round, the public Community Discussion will take the form of four thematic cycles with specific questions centred around four axes: Spaces (where does art happen/is exhibited and how); Practices (curation, arts management, networks); Outreach (communities); Branding and Aesthetics (creating brands in the arts).

The invited contributors will include cultural agents, arts and theatre managers, curators, and academics. Meanwhile, the audience itself will also have the chance to participate and bring their own thoughts into the conversation. Through this Community Discussion, Lemesos 2030 aspires to ensure that multiple viewpoints and voices will be heard regarding the current challenges of the city’s artistic and cultural landscape.

Simultaneous interpreting will be provided, as well as Greek sign language.
