Nicosia hosting MED9 European Affairs Ministers

Nicosia is set to host a meeting of MED9 European Affairs Ministers and Deputy Ministers, with the participation of France, Greece, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Malta, Portugal and Slovenia.

This 2 and 3 October meeting will be the last ministerial one before a MED9 leaders Summit which will take place in Paphos on 11 October and is preparatory in nature.

"The meeting's aim is to discuss common challenges and the promotion of common interests of EU Mediterranean member states ahead of the new institutional EU cycle with a view for the Mediterranean to remain at the core of EU priorities," a Deputy Ministry of European Affairs press release says.

Ministers will discuss matters such as MED9 countries priorities in the new institutional EU cycle (2024-2029) in light of the strategic agenda approved by EU leaders in June.

The situation in the Middle East has also been added in the meeting's agenda in view of recent negative developments in the region and the upcoming discussion of the issue at the MED9 Summit.

The main work of the meeting will take place on 3 October at the Nicosia Municipality premises.

The nine Ministers and Deputy Ministers will give a press conference once the meeting's work is concluded.
