Digital Security Authority becomes National Cybersecurity Certification Authority

The Digital Security Authority has been appointed as the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority (NCCA) in the Republic of Cyprus, which aims to contribute towards Cyprus’ aim to become a regional hub for cybersecurity services.

According to an official press release, the establishment and the powers of the NCCA are in line with the provisions of the European Regulation 2019/881, related to the Cybersecurity Act.

The National Cybersecurity Certification Authority aims to foster the adoption of cybersecurity certification of products and services in the information technology and communication sectors.

Furthermore, it aspires to enhance the relevant capabilities of the Republic of Cyprus, in order to become a regional certification centre. 

The NCCA along with other activities and structures, will contribute towards Cyprus’ aim to become a regional hub for cybersecurity services.

It will also have the authority to certify European and third-country products and services available in the European market.

Among its responsibilities, the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority will include licensing and supervision of conformity assessment bodies, market surveillance concerning certified products and manufacturers, collaboration with relevant entities in Cyprus and abroad and representation of the Republic of Cyprus in competent European bodies.

The NCCA also aims to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to strengthen the cybersecurity landscape both at a National and European level, the press release added.
