AI the focus of MED9 Summit with participation of Cypriot Deputy Minister

The utilisation of artificial intelligence's potential to address critical issues will be at the centre of the Ministerial Summit of the MED9 on Digital Economy in Malta, with the participation of Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy, Philippos Hadjizacharias.

The Ministerial Summit of MED9 is set to take place on Wednesday, 20 September, at the conference centre in Malta, a Deputy Ministry press release says.

As reported, the convergence of the nine Mediterranean EU member states is taking place to exchange knowledge, ideas, best practices, and cutting-edge research findings in the dynamic fields of advanced digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, within the framework of regional cooperation.

The focus of the meeting will revolve around harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence to address critical issues such as climate change, food security, sustainable development, healthcare services, cultural heritage, cybersecurity, education and workforce development, as well as research and innovation utilising reliable artificial intelligence.

The Summit's aim is to highlight and leverage these technologies in the Mediterranean region as tools to tackle challenges and to use them as defence against potential threats, including those in the cyber domain, the press release adds.

During the meeting, "a Joint Declaration of the nine Mediterranean member states on Artificial Intelligence will be signed, in which the MED9 recognise the transformative potential of AI in shaping the digital future, and commit to collective actions that will propel the Mediterranean region forward."
