February inflation up by 6.7%

Inflation was up by a monthly 6.7% in February, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increasing by 0.87 to 112.88 units, compared to 112.01 units the previous month, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service show.

For the period January-February 2023, the CPI increased by 6.9% compared with the same period last year.

As regards economic origin, the largest change when compared to the index of February 2022 was recorded in “Electricity” (42.2%). In comparison to January’s index, the largest change was monitored in “Agricultural Goods” (8.6%).

Compared to February last year, the largest changes were monitored in the categories “Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels” (18.1%) and “Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages” (9.6%).

In comparison to the CPI of the previous month, the largest change in February was observed in “Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages” (3.6%).

In January–February 2023, the largest changes compared with the same period last year were recorded in “Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels” (17.7%) and “Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages” (10.2%).
