President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides declared a three-day mourning period until the burial day of two Cypriot students, who lost their lives in the fatal train crash, in Tempi, Greece.

The remains of 23-year-old Kyprianos Papaioannou and 24-year-old Anastasia Adamidou were identified through the DNA process.

An announcement by the Cyprus Presidency says that the President gave instructions for the state to bear the cost for transporting the remains of the two young students, as well as the cost to bring back to Cyprus the members of their families. The state will also cover the cost for the funerals.

“President Nikos Christodoulides received with grief and deep sorrow the tragic news of the identification of remains of the two Cypriot students, Kyprianos Papaioannou and Anastasia Adamidou, who were on board the fatal train in Greece” the announcement says.

The President of Cyprus expresses his sincere condolences to the families of both Cypriot students, as well as of all victims and notes the state’s wholehearted support.

It is noted finally that President Christodoulides instructed the members of the government to refrain from participating in public events.
