Employment in Broad Public Sector up 1.4% in Q4 2022

Total employment in the Broad Public Sector in the fourth quarter of 2022 increased by 1,033 persons (1.4%) compared to the same quarter of 2021.

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, employment in the Broad Public Sector in the fourth quarter of 2022 reached 72,596 persons. The employment in General Government was 66,823 and in the Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies 5,773 persons.

In General Government, which comprises the Government, Non-Profit Organisations and Local Authorities, total employment reached 53,498, 8,897 and 4,428 persons respectively.

The employment in Central Government increased by 892 persons (1.5%), in Local Authorities by 11 persons (0.2%) and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 130 persons (2.3%).

Compared to the third quarter of 2022, the employment in the Broad Public Sector increased by 2,167 persons (3.1%). Employment increased in all three categories, in Central Government by 2,039 persons (3.4%), in Local Authorities by 58 persons (1.3%) and in Publicly Owned Enterprises and Companies by 70 persons (1.2%).
