Interior Minister Ioannou and EC Structural Reforms official want to enhance cooperation

Minister of the Interior Constantinos Ioannou and Director General for Structural Reforms of the European Commission (EC) Mario Nava have expressed satisfaction with their cooperation so far and the mutual willingness to further enhance this cooperation.

According to an official press release, the Minister met on Tuesday with the EC official during which they discussed about the European Commission's Technical Support Instrument (TSI), which supports member states with technical assistance for institutional, administrative and structural reforms that support growth and enhance resilience.

During the meeting, they talked about the progress as regards projects financed in Cyprus in areas related to money laundering, issues related to the handling of irregular migration flows and more specifically on reception issues, infrastructure, asylum procedures, returns and integration as well as matters related to assessment of real estate.

The Minister expressed his appreciation for the work carried out by the European Commission within the framework of the Technical Support Instrument and expressed his wish for a closer cooperation in the future, in projects that will focus mainly on immigration issues, with an emphasis on the return of third country nationals in their countries of origin.

Nava referred to the excellent cooperation with Cyprus and the high rate of implementation of the projects. He also noted the willingness to help and support Cyprus in submitting new proposals in the context of the new financing of the Technical Support Facility.
