Deputy Minister welcomes Cyprus' re-election at IMO Council

Shipping Deputy Minister of Cyprus Marina Hadjimanolis has said that Cyprus' re-election at the Council of the International Maritime Organisation demonstrates the strong position of the country.

Invited to comment on the fact that Cyprus maintains its position on the IMO Council, to which it has been continuously re-elected since 1987, she told CNA that "it is a great success which proves the strong position of Cyprus in the international maritime field."

She also thanked her colleagues at the Shipping Deputy Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their teamwork and cooperation in promoting the candidacy.

Hadjimanolis was in Athens when she made the comments, to, on the evening of 1 December, attend the Lloyd's List Greek Shipping Awards and give the award to the winner in the Maritime Education category.

In her statements to CNA she said that Maritime Education is high on the priorities of the Deputy Ministry.

Cyprus was reelected to the International Maritime Organisation Council for 2024-25 with 132 votes as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on platform X (former Twitter).

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted on 1 December, close cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Shipping resulted to an excellent outcome, safeguarding the continued presence of Cyprus in the Council since 1987.

It expresses "gratitude to all countries who supported Cyprus' candidacy."
