Electronic information service created for special electoral roll

The Ministry of Interior has announced the operation of the electronic information service for registration in the special electoral roll for the 2024 European elections of citizens, who reside in areas where the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control.

The site is https://etv.elections.moi.gov.cy/ according to the announcement.

In a press release the Ministry of Interior says that according to the 2004 Law on the Election of Members of the European Parliament, the special electoral roll for voters shall include every citizen of the Republic who, according to the data contained in the Population Register System, resides in the areas where the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control, has reached or will have reached the age of 18 by the date of the election of the members of the European Parliament and holds a Republic identity card issued by the Cyprus Population Registry System.

The service, which was developed following a recommendation from the European Parliament's Office in Cyprus, aims to inform citizens in a timely manner about the conditions for automatic registration in the special electoral roll, so that they can take the necessary steps to update their data in the Registry System.

Applications must be submitted to the offices of the relevant Prefects by 2 April 2024.

The Interior Ministry also notes that citizens living in areas where the Government of the Republic does not exercise effective control vote at special polling stations, which operate for this purpose in areas adjacent to the buffer zone.

Unlike other voters, these voters are not allocated to specific polling stations and can vote at any special polling station.

The Ministry of Interior adds that, in order to avoid double voting, an electronic electoral register is used in these stations.
