Bad cheques worth €566,732 in October

Thirty-six bad cheques were issued in October totalling €566,732, according to the Central Bank of Cyprus’ (CBC).

This, it said, resulted in 21 entities being registered on the preliminary list of its Central Information Register for the Issuers of Dishonoured Cheques (CIR).

Between January and September 2023, 280 bad cheques were issued with a total value of €1,536,853. The amount for the same period last year was €1,518,669.

The bad cheques were issued by 192 persons (109 legal entities and 83 natural persons), compared to 258 in the corresponding period in 2022.

The CBC said that of the 21 entities registered on the CIR in October, nine were legal entities, two natural persons and 10 natural persons who control legal entities.

During the first ten months of this year, a total of 228 persons were registered in the CIR, compared to 209 persons in the same period last year.
