BoC is hiring a Data Scientist to join its Risk Analytics team

Bank of Cyprus is looking to recruit a full-time Data Scientist to join its Risk Analytics team in Nicosia. According to the bank, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to use their skills and experience to work on a variety of exciting projects, playing a key role in the expansion of predictive analytics within the Bank.

They will participate in the full cycle of a model development and deployment, including data sourcing, analysis, quality, design, and implementation to ensure robust and accurate model. They will work closely with Engineers, Business Users, other teams or vendors and act as the subject matter expert for products under their area of responsibility. “You will ideally have previous professional experience, however, if you are a new graduate you are encouraged to apply if you have the technical skills,” the bank said.

Key responsibilities:

  • Engage across the full data science project lifecycle, including: engaging with stakeholders, data wrangling, modelling, delivering insights, automation.
  • Visualise data, find patterns, relationships in data and assess probabilities.
  • Close coordination with the other members of the Risk, Business and IT teams.
  • Application of advanced analytics and machine learning.

Academic / Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Physics or other related subject.
  • Master’s degree or a PhD in any of the above subjects will be considered as an advantage.

Experience / Skills

  • Experience with model development/production work.
  • Experience in credit risk modelling and/or in-depth statistical analytics.
  • Experience in a similar position in the financial services industry will be considered as an advantage.
  • Advanced programming skills in software such as Python, R, SAS and/or SQL.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML techniques.
  • Ability to understand complex issues and explain them in simple terms.
  • Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints.
  • Strong quantitative skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain quantitative models in an intuitive way.
  • Team player and ability to think through solutions with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Greek & English.
