The strategic importance of Cyprus in developing stronger ties between Europe, the United States and the Eastern Mediterranean was highlighted by Marios Kapiris, President of AmCham Cyprus, during his opening address at the Chamber’s annual conference.
Speaking at the Landmark Nicosia as part of the inaugural annual conference entitled “Strategic Co-Orders and Alliances: Transatlantic Cooperation and Europe’s Connectivity”, Kapiris welcomed distinguished guests, including the Minister of Interior, US Ambassador John Breslow, and the Ambassadors of India, Italy and Greece.
Kapiris stressed that “the theme of this year’s conference reflects the reality that our economies are deeply interconnected, and that relationships between markets, institutions, continents and countries matter more than ever.” He underlined that businesses are now required to navigate an increasingly complex environment and constantly evolving markets, making strong and reliable partnerships absolutely essential. It is precisely in this context that organisations such as AmCham Cyprus play a pivotal role, with the continuous strengthening of the trade and economic partnership between Cyprus and the United States at the heart of their mission.
Celebrating 30 Years and Strategic Influence
In his address, he also referred to an important milestone for the Chamber. As he announced, “Since our establishment in 1996, we are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year, with AmCham Cyprus having evolved into the country’s leading business association, representing more than 100 major American companies and businesses with American interests.”
Kapiris pointed out that AmCham Cyprus has now become a key contributor to the comprehensive strategic cooperation between Cyprus and the United States, working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Embassy.
A Platform for Dialogue on Key Sectors of the Economy
His remarks formed part of the conference’s opening session, which established the strategic framework for strengthening cooperation between Europe, the United States and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Kapiris made it clear that AmCham Cyprus aspires to be much more than simply a network of companies. As he stated: “We want to be a platform for dialogue and cooperation, where businesses can engage with policymakers from Cyprus, the United States and Europe.”
Concluding his presentation, he noted that the Chamber’s priorities focus on supporting its members across key growth sectors, including energy (with an emphasis on oil, natural gas and green technologies), digital technologies, sustainability, healthcare and education. These efforts aim to create new opportunities for attracting American investment and promoting innovation in Cyprus.
