The Republic of Moldova is now a country that is at a very advanced stage in its process of joining the European Union, which is a testament to the resilience of the Moldovan people and the steadfast support of its partners.
The priorities of his country and the importance of its relations with Cyprus were recently presented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, highlighting the historical significance of the current situation for bilateral relations.
Popșoi was speaking at the inauguration of Moldova's Honorary Consulate in Cyprus on 26 October.
In the opinion of the Moldovan Minister, despite the particularly difficult international environment in which modern challenges are developing, Cyprus has emerged as an absolutely trustworthy and timeless friend for his country.
In the context of his statement on the strategic importance of Cyprus, Popșoi expressed Moldova's deep and eternal gratitude to the Cypriot people, the country's political leadership, the President of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. As he argued, during the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the first important step towards the integration of Moldova into the European family was taken, while he praised the valuable contribution of Cypriot diplomacy to this effort.
Popșoi underlined the importance of the institution of the Honorary Consulate in Cyprus, characterising it as an important pillar of the community that will act as a strong bridge of communication and cooperation between Moldova and Cyprus.
In the Minister’s assessment, improving regulatory frameworks and building stronger investment ties are possible when there is a solid foundation in people-to-people contacts.
As he concluded, Moldova will remain a reliable partner for Cyprus and, thanks to this sincere friendship, the two countries will be able to withstand and overcome all common challenges that will come their way.
